First off, [personal profile] vilakins has made me co-mod here, so, hello! *waves*

More importantly, [personal profile] vilakins has also imported [community profile] b7fic and [community profile] b7friday over from LJ. Both were brought over primarily for archival purposes, as they contain some fic that aren't available anywhere else. However, as both mods are still very much around, please do go over and join, rifle around in, and post to both as you wish.

In particular, we would like to know if there is any interest in reviving the weekly flashfic comm, [community profile] b7friday?

We would be happy to do so if people would like it - you can find out more over at the comm, but basically a prompt is posted once a week (on Fridays) and you have the rest of the week to create a fanwork in response to that prompt. In the meantime, if you want to have a go at any of the previous prompts, we have placed it and its original over on LJ on amnesty, so feel free!

Please do comment here or at the comm if you would be interested, and if so, I shall pimp the comm around more generally.

The official announcement that Hermit Library would be moving to AO3 went up today. The import will start in a month to give any Hermit contributors time to either ask questions or request that their work not be imported.

The main post has answers to a lot of FAQs, but here are the most relevant points/some additional points:

1. Nobody's work will be imported if they say no.
2. Nobody's work will be imported if it is already on AO3!
N.B. If any mistakes are made regarding the above, and hopefully they won't be, it will be a result of human error and a lot of similar files, etc. Point 3 then comes into immediate effect.
3. Authors can remove or ask for their work to be removed from AO3 at any point
4. Imported fics can either be linked to existing AO3 accounts, or not, as the author specifies (and fics can be backdated so they don't block your current fics)
5. Essays and filks will also be imported, with the same caveats above
6. The import will be done manually by humans
7. Hermit will be closed at some point because it's costing money, but before that Judith and I are trying to arrange that almost all content is archived either on AO3 or somewhere else that people will be able to access

My final point is not an answer to a question - it's a plea from me as a lover of Blake's 7 fanfiction and fandom history, and someone who has recently taken their own medicine and uploaded a lot of late '90s Harry Potter fic they are vaguely ashamed of to the Archive:

Please, even if you are embarrassed by your old fic/don't think it accurately reflects the way you'd write now, do consider allowing your work to be imported. This will ensure it is preserved, and (even while Hermit exists) that it will be more searchable. Someone will enjoy your fic, however old it is. Possibly a lot of someones. If you have ever been frustrated to discover that a book you wanted to read was out-of-print, please consider how future fans may feel when they discover that they could once have read that Vila/Cally epic but now it's gone/inaccessible.

I also think it's important to represent how the fandom used to be. Only by learning from the past can we understand our present, etc.

Please also do consider uploading any of your zine fic that has never been on the internet to AO3! I'm very happy to help with that too.

Any questions, please let me know here or at hermitlibrary.archivist@gmail.com

Deva's Desk, the Blake's 7 minizine is out now as a download. There are two versions the one to be read on electronic devices and the other to be printed out.

Get it HERE.

Now I've worked out the pdf thing, I've decided to increase the work count for articles to 1500 words & 750 words for reviews for Deva's Desk. Drabbles are still more than welcome, but I thought the low word count might be putting some people off.

Anyone interested in a Blakes 7 Kink Meme?

If you are, go here b7_kinkmeme (sorry, it's on livejournal).

What is a Kink Meme?
A community where people post anonymously (or not, go with what you feel) with prompts. Other people fill the prompts. Yet more people rejoice at delicious Blakes 7 content. The "kink" part of "kink meme" implies that there must be some hardcore porn involved, but i don't mind if your prompt is 'Vila and Avon rob a bank, lols.', 'Gan hugs everyone.', or 'Jenna, Cally and Blake discuss their haircare regimes.'. Alternately, it's fine is your prompts are 'Avon/Blake, sex with the Liberator's tentacles', 'Jenna/Servalan, pegging', 'Dayna/Justin, underage'.

What do you want from me?
Prompts, fic, art. Also politeness, respect for other people's weirdness, maybe a brief warning if your prompt/fill contains non-con/dub-con/excessive violence/underage/BEN STEED.

New comm!

I've just started up a new Blake's 7 comm over at Livejournal, b7love_250

Photobucket

It's based on the same sort of idea as whoniverse1000, and the aim is to collectively write at least 250 distinct pairings for the fandom.

If you don't feel like writing, you can still join in - there a prompt post here where you can request pairings.

This is a reminder that the Blake's 7 rewatch will begin this Saturday on [livejournal.com profile] b7rewatch with 1.01: The Way Back. Yay!

I will put up two discussion posts each Saturday (which may be Friday in some timezones): a general one, and one in which spoilers beyond that episode are not allowed, so that new viewers and those who have not yet seen all of B7 can participate. People who have seen the whole series may of course comment in either or both posts.

Any discussion or questions will be welcome. :-)

A friend told me that amazon.co.uk is selling B7 DVDs at £17.48 per season boxed set (that's down from £50.99)! UK purchasers can use the free super-saver shipping. My friend who lives in the US was charged £3 shipping for each of two orders. That's still a good deal: £70-odd versus over £200.

Here are the links:

Series 1 (with option to buy first three seasons together)
Series 4

My friend did the "frequently bought together" option on the first page and then just added the fourth season separately.

I've had the DVDs since they came out and can rec them: they're excellent, clear quality and have some good extras, though the cast have no idea how to do a commentary. US viewers would be able to play them on a region-free player.

When: Saturday, 18 July, 12:15 PM

Where: The Knight's Templar, Unit 1 Temple Square, Temple Quay, Bristol, Avon, BS1 6DG.

To get to the pub from the (railway) station, you walk straight through
the ticket gates and foyer, ignoring the main exit to your left, and out
into the covered car park. Go straight through the car park and out, and
you'll be on the path leading to Temple square. As you arrive in the
square, the pub is the large glass-fronted building on your left.

After many long years, and much blood, sweat, tears and dodgy
special effects, the task that was started by Emma Peel has been
finished by her. Yes, at last all 52 episodes of Blake's 7 have
been given the Wobblevision treatment.

Fittingly, the last one to be done was the last real episode -
Blake - and this was filmed with love, care and alcohol at
Redemption 09. The staggering results can be found here:

When I first saw the little alien, I cried with delight, "A Decima!" (well, not really, but he was a bit leafy). And who played him? DEEP ROY! This made me ridiculously happy.

Well, there may not be many people here yet, but here's something that made me think of Blake's Seven recently.

I was listening to a radio documentary about Margaret Thatcher last week, which had been made to commemorate the 30th anniversary of her becoming Prime Minister. And amid the various anecdotes about "what she was really like" one made my jaw drop slightly. You knew you were in with her, one aide said, when she sat down with you for a chat and took her shoes off. Which immediately brought to mind a certain episode broadcast a few weeks before Thatcher took office:
